Mark Rothko work highlight of record-setting auction

An oil painting by Mark Rothko stole the show in New York Tuesday evening, selling for a record $22.4 million US at a successful auction of post-war and contemporary art. The Christie’s sale of Rothko’s Homage to Matisse to an anonymous buyer has set a new world record for the sale of any post-war work at auction. It also set a new sales high for the artist.
