Farm fraud mans’s land for auction

About 2,400 acres of land belonging to a man in prison for farm fraud is going on the auction block this month.
Duane Huber is about halfway through a five-year sentence for running a system of sham farms to get federal farm payments. He has been ordered to repay the federal government about $4 million. Prosecutors have called in the largest farm fraud case in state history.
As part of an agreement with the U.S. attorney’s office, Huber, of Wimbledon, is selling land in several counties.
Huber’s attorney, Irv Nodland of Bismarck, said he is prepared to appeal Huber’s case to the U.S. Supreme Court if necessary. In the meantime, he said, proceeds from the auction will be held in trust until the appeal is resolved.
First on the auction block will be 570 acres in Hettinger County, near Regent, and 160 acres in Slope County. That auction is scheduled Nov. 15 in Dickinson.
