Auction for property seized in Hayes case

A couple of hundred items seized from a man accused of bilking millions of dollars from a Shreveport order of sisters go on the auction block Saturday morning.

Two hundred items — including a half-dozen SUVs, a low-mileage 2005 Jaguar, dump trucks, electronics, a wedding ring, lots of tools and several bedroom suits — are up for auction.

It was seized from Woody Hayes Sr. of Haughton, who is accused of telling sob stories to get $3.6 million from a trusting member of the Daughters of the Cross.

Hayes is also accused of conning a Shreveport resident out of $689,000.

He is scheduled to go on trial in federal court in Shreveport next month.

Hundreds of people are expected at the auction. Registration begins at 8 a.m. Saturday at Lawler Auction Co., 7781 Highway 1 North in Shreveport. Bidding starts at 10 a.m.

The household items are being sold as part of Hayes’ bankruptcy case. The vehicles are part of the criminal case.
