Agreement reached in dispute over paintings

Two paintings appraised at nearly $500,000 are expected to be brought back to Milwaukee from a Connecticut auction house following out-of-court settlement of lawsuits over the status of the artworks.

Attorneys for the Milwaukee School Board and Shannon’s Fine Arts Auctioneers of Milford, Conn., said Monday the board is paying $29,500 to get the paintings back from Shannon’s.The pair of American landscapes by Swedish born artist Birger Sandzen were gifts of the Washington High School Class of 1927.
