Nye County Commissioners to try auction again Nov. 17

Published October 29th, 2005

In the wake of an auction three weeks ago that saw only five parcels sold, raising $1.3 million for the county, the Nye County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday decided to try again Nov. 17, hoping that bidders will hear jingle bells and be in more of a Yule-time spending mood.
Some 19 parcels, coming into the county’s possession due to unpaid taxes, will be put back on the auction block beginning at 8:30 a.m.
The auction will not include the Calvada Eye this time, since not a single bidder came forward last time with the $6 million asking price for the 28-acre parcel. The parcel is currently being appraised, for the second time, to determine its worth and comparative value as a possible site for construction of county offices.
However, two commissioners reported hearing from separate parties interested in the property. But they heard the same thing last time, too.
The parties were told to contact the county manager if truly interested. The county also plans to advertise the auction on its Web site, www.Nyecounty.net.
The county is legally required to hold two public auctions before it can list property for sale with a real estate agency.
