Some 2,000 people attended the Saturday auction of a collection of antique Chevrolets, which netted $4.1 million in a matter of hours.Dean Kruse, the owner of Auburn, Ind.,-based Kruse International, the auction house that handled the sale of the vehicles, said the Chevrolet collection is probably the best in the world. The 65 vehicles, which took Bobby Wiggins 40 years to amass, were sold within four hours.Wiggins, who sat near auctioneers during the bidding held inside a massive tent next to Wiggins’ auto museum on U.S. Highway 64, said he was “holding up pretty well.”It’s a little depressing,” said Wiggins, who decided to sell the collection because caring for the vehicles was taking too much of his time. “But it also makes you feel good.”A California man paid $170,000 for a 1958 Impala convertible, the highest winning bid of the day.
