A son of Stormy Atlantic sold for $62,000 US to Canada’s Knob Hill Stable on Sunday, the top price in the second-last session of the September Yearling Sale.
The chestnut colt out of South Sea Blues, by Cure the Blues, was sold by the consignment of Craig and Holly Bandoroff’s Denali Stud, as agent. Knob Hill Stable is owned by Steve Stavro, the former chairman, governor and owner of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, which owns the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs and NBA Toronto Raptors.
Keeneland sold 249 horses Saturday for $3,703,600, an average of $14,874 and a median of $10,000. During the comparable session last year, 215 horses brought $2,979,100, an average of $13,856 and a median of $8,000.
Keeneland sold 233 horses Sunday for $2,223,600, an average of $9,971. During the same session last year, 200 horses brought $2,519,000, an average of $12,595.
The 14-day auction concludes Monday. So far, 3,391 horses have been sold for $323,743,800, for an average price of $100,106.
