2,202 US properties on block for tax sale

As of Friday, Allen county had a list of 2,202 tax liens to sell – totaling more than $5 million in delinquent property taxes. The 2005 tax sale, which runs Wednesday through Friday, is so big this year the county has hired a professional auctioneer to conduct it.
A property gets put on the tax-sale list when taxes are a year-and-a-half, or three payments delinquent. Properties with other assessment liens, such as delinquent Neighborhood Code fees, weed fees or unpaid sewer user charges also can be auctioned at the tax sale.
Some local people attend the tax sale looking for a good deal on a house, but by far the majority of attendees are investors. “The real big spenders will be from out of state,” said Scot Harber, who manages the tax sale.
