2005 Monterey auctions total $79,079,694

Last year’s overall auction results from the Monterey weekend were considered remarkable, with $48 million in sales and 364 cars sold. That was up from just $24 million and 260 cars sold in 2003.

This year the total jumped another 50 percent. Between the first gavel at the Christie’s auction at the Monterey Jet Center on Aug. 18, to the last at Gooding & Co.’s sale at Pebble Beach three days later, 374 cars (out of 519 offered) went home with new owners; grand total was a record-breaking $79,079,694.
