Covington Landing gets no bids at auction

Published September 2nd, 2005

Covington still holds the keys to the vacant Covington Landing entertainment and restaurant complex after a public auction failed to entice a single bidder to take the complex off the city’s hands.Worley Auctioneers of Loveland, Ohio, said it drew at least three interested parties to the auction, which was scheduled to occur at noon Wednesday. But only two men registered to bid, and neither was willing to place a bid. City officials, BB Riverboats employees and other interested onlookers shuffled around the vacant complex until about 12:20 p.m. as Bryan Worley, the auctioneer, sought someone - anyone - to make a bid. When none came forward, the auction was canceled, forcing Covington to try Plan C - negotiating individually with potential buyers. The city previously had hired a real estate agent to market the complex before resorting to the absolute auction. The failed auction was just the latest setback in a long series for the troubled Landing.
