Celebrity auction set for Hurricane Katrina relief

Published September 1st, 2005

Celebrities are donating items for an online auction for disaster relief in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
The auction of celebrity and corporate-donated items on the Charity Folks Web site will begin Friday and run until Sept. 16, it was announced Wednesday.
All proceeds will go to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.
Items include the opportunity to attend Morgan Freeman’s upcoming film, “An Unfinished Life,” a vacation at a Four Seasons resort and memorabilia packages from various movies.
The Red Cross said Wednesday it had raised $21 million, a figure comparable to the response for tsunami victims following the devastation in Asia last year. Nearly $15 million has come from individual donations through the Red Cross’ Web site, with the rest representing corporate contributions.
Charity Folks is a online auction venue that provides technology-based solutions to nonprofit organizations.
