US Flag eBay auction to start again

Published August 30th, 2005

The original 50-star U.S. flag — created and sewn by Saginaw native Robert G. Heft — attracted 7,839 hits but no bidders during its first 10-day Internet auction on eBay.
Heft has relisted the flag, again starting the bidding at $250,000, in another 10-day auction that ends at 10:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8.

Heft, who lives in Thomas Township, designed the flag as part of a high school project in 1958. The flag has represented the nation since 1960.

Heft has said he plans to use the money to help pay health care costs for himself and put toward college education funds for a great-niece and great-nephew.
